Senate Bill 220 + Nevada Studios
SB220 brings over $1 BILLION from the private sector to education thru a state-of-the-art film studio located at UNLV. These funds will be used for vocational training into film, medical technology, aerospace/defense, and video game publishing.
Future generations of Nevada’s will now have pathways into these dynamic employment sectors with leaving the state. The funds will also provide for research and the pursuit of these industries thru a non-profit entity that will stand alongside the chambers and economic development entities in Nevada.
SB220 provides tax incentives to support the development of Nevada Studios—a proposed 34.42-acre, 800,000-square-foot mixed-use destination located in the Harry Reid Research and Technology Park. The project includes a major film and television production studio component.
UNLV HARRY REID TECHNOLOGY PARK
Nevada Studios is positioned on the UNLV Tech Park and will be a place for where education meets Hollywood in a cross functional setting, situated right next to the UNLV Black Fire, adding to a culture of education and immersive learning.
At 122 acres with approximately 93 acres of dedicated tech space, the mixed-use Harry Reid Research and Technology Park will serve as UNLV’s tech incubator, advancing research, business development, and economic growth in Southern Nevada.
UNLV Tech Park will also host a variety of other businesses, with 1.5 million square feet of available office and retail space. An initial economic analysis by the UNLV Center for Business and Economic Research indicates that the park will generate 25,000 new jobs and as much as $2.6 billion in direct and indirect economic impact in Las Vegas. This work is supported by the UNLV Research Foundation.
Nevada Media + Technology Lab
The Nevada Media + Technology Lab is envisioned as a critical portal between the Nevada Studios and Nevada’s Middle Schools, High Schools, Community Colleges, and Colleges. The Media + Technology Lab is where the future local skilled labor will be trained (workforce development) to serve this newest sector in the Nevada economy.
The Nevada Media + Technology Lab’s annual funding for its operations and scholarships is anticipated to be derived from a proposed 3% carve out from a new 2025 Nevada Film Tax Credit Program bill to be submitted and approved during the 2025 Nevada Legislative session.
